Civic Futures @ Library Test Kitchen

Civic Futures transformed public libraries into innovation spaces for civic technology development. Working with Chicago Public Library’s Test Kitchen, the project engaged communities in designing and testing civic tech tools addressing local challenges.nnThe project demonstrated libraries’ potential as civic tech hubs—trusted community institutions where residents can experiment with technology for civic purposes. Participants developed prototypes ranging from community organizing tools to local information platforms.nnCivic Futures showed how libraries can democratize technology development, ensuring civic tech reflects diverse community needs and priorities rather than tech sector assumptions.
